Tanzania: 12.12.2013 - 13.12.2013

As part of the Tanzania towards 2015 project ILPI has worked with the State University of Zanzibar to develop a representative national panel survey via mobile phones in Zanzibar. The Wasemavyo Wazanzibari mobile survey was officially launched following a two day capacity building seminar on survey development and statistical analysis for SUZA and Zanzibar Government officials conducted by ILPI research associate Keith Weghorst and ILPI Tanzania Program Director Sterling Roop.

The official launch of Wasemavyo Wazanzibari was officiated by the Minister of State in the 2nd Vice President Office Honorable Mohammed Aboud, the Danish Ambassador to Tanzania Jonny Flentø and Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania Ingun Klepsvik on 12.12.13. Minister Aboud highlighted the need for research and data to be used to inform not just academic research, but government policy making in Zanzibar. He urged SUZA and ILPI to work hard to ensure that the results of Wasemavyo to support informed and evidence based decision and policy making in Zanzibar.
