Lecture on editorial vs commercial publishing online

Luanda: 29.06.2016

ILPI representatives were invited to hold a lecture at the Training Centre for Journalists in Angola (Centro de Formação de Jornalistas – Cefojor), on 29 June 2016.

“Striking a balance between paid material and self-produced content on social media: implications for human rights” was the title of the lecture conducted by ILPI’s Director Njal Hostmaelingen and Advisor Anja S. Ostgard. The lecture, which was opened by Cefojor General Director, Joaquim Paulo, examined dilemmas such as how the distinction between commercial and self-produced content are often blurred on social media, the disarray this can leave users in, and the ethical guidelines that editors have to ensure that a distinction between commercial and journalistic content is clear.

Approximately 60-65 people attended the workshop which ended with a Q & A section, most of the attendees were journalists and media students, but also some teachers.

The presentation can be accessed in both English and Portuguese.
