ILPI’s Professor and Senior Partner Kjetil Tronvoll and Addis Ababa-based Advisor Goitom Gebreluel have an article on the prospects of state collapse in Eritrea in the latest edition of the Horn of Africa Bulletin.
Tronvoll and Gebreluel identify several symptoms that such a collapse may be drawing nearer, and warn that an implosion of the Eritrean state may lead to a civil war with severe regional implications. Given the size of the country’s army, and the amount of weapons distributed among civilians, such a situation will inevitably also cause a grave humanitarian and security crisis.
