Hellestveit publishes article on international law on the use of force and the Norwegian military engagement in Iraq

Senior Researcher Cecilie Hellestveit has published a peer-reviewed article in the journal International Politikk, where she analyses the Norwegian military contribution to Iraq from the perspective of international law regulating military operations on foreign soil. Hellestveit argues that this military operation initiated in 2015, is distinguished from other Norwegian military expeditions in recent decades, drawing attention to three challenges that consequently arise: a low level of clarity concerning the nature and scope of the assignment, lack of legal guarantees calibrated to the tasks of the soldiers and finally poor efficiency resulting from a precarious legal situation.
